The Smallpeice Trust and Amazon Future Engineer join forces to inspire the next generation of computer engineers
The Smallpeice Trust is delighted to be partnering with Amazon to help inspire the next generation of computer scientists as part of the Amazon Future Engineer programme.
Amazon Future Engineer is a national programme that is aimed at making the skills and opportunities associated with computer science available to everyone, with a focus on underserved and underrepresented youth.
As part of this effort, Amazon Future Engineer is supporting Smallpeice Trust’s five-day residential course on Computing, Electronics and Robotics. Developed by the Smallpeice Trust, the course aims to show students the broad impact of computing. From driverless cars to the internet of things, students will learn about designing and building machines that can be programmed using computer code and controlled electronically by humans.
Alongside hands-on activities, such as creating prototypes, students will explore real-world problem solving, and will hear from professionals from Amazon about a range of career roles.
The course will be delivered by academics from the University of Southampton and students will get to experience life away from home, staying on campus at this leading university. Amazon Future Engineer is fully funding a number of bursaries to cover the cost of this programme. Teachers and applicants can learn more here.
“We are delighted to be working with the Smallpeice Trust to fund high-impact courses for young people. Computing, Electronics and Robotics is a great course for young students to learn more about Computer Science and physical computing, and to understand how these subjects can apply to a range of future careers.” Commented: Michael Vollmann, Amazon Future Engineer lead.
The Amazon Future Engineer programme is committed to bringing computer science skills and opportunities to young people from underserved and underrepresented communities. By giving students and teachers the chance to access computer science skills training and career exploration, Amazon Future Engineer can help close the computer science skills gap.
