Taking young people on a first step towards their CyberFirst journey
CyberFirst
CyberFirst introduces young people with a passion for computing and tech to the fascinating world of cyber security. It is a programme of opportunities inspired and led by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), a part of GCHQ.
Each year thousands of young people take the first step on their CyberFirst journey. Attending a course lets them delve into how everyday technology really works - the systems, software and networks - and how to take sensible steps to protect it.
This summer there are FREE online places available for S4, S5 and S6 students to attend a CyberFirst Defenders, Futures or Advanced – there is also one residential CyberFirst Advanced course taking place in Paisley.
A great experience
Anwen, 17, from Argyll & Bute attended the CyberFirst Advanced virtual course in 2020: “I would say to anyone thinking about doing a CyberFirst course to just go for it – I knew very little about computer systems or the technical side of things but was taught all these amazing new things. It was interesting, enjoyable and fun!”
The course helped her decide on her next step: “Attending the course helped me to take the plunge and apply to study computer science at uni.”
